The Three Kings had an intense few days over the weekend. The forecast of rain on Sunday forced them to bring forward their visit to numerous towns in Malaga province, where their presence filled the streets with excitement and magic. Towns such as Marbella, Torremolinos, Vélez-Málaga, Antequera and Rincón de la Victoria celebrated the arrival of Melchior, Gaspar and Balthazar. In the Malaga city up to five districts celebrated the arrival of the Kings.
Rincón de la Victoria, Nerja and Cártama were the first to receive Their Majesties at just 4pm. They then visited Torremolinos, Alhaurín el Grande, Mijas, Estepona, Torre del Mar, Vélez-Málaga, Marbella and Antequera. In Malaga city they went to the eastern area, Ciudad Jardín, Bailén-Miraflores, Cruz de Humilladero and Teatinos-Universidad.
Although similar, each of the parades was unique and full of character. In Antequera, for example, the Kings threw locally made shortbreads and 'mollete' soft bread rolls; in Estepona the floats were inspired by fantasy films and included the participation of the 501st Spanish garrison legion, and in Cruz de Humilladero the Kings travelled on camels and even handed out some PlayStation5 games or bicycles.
The parades all went off without incident or inclement weather and were attended by large crowds in the most populated municipalities of the province. In Marbella, Their Majesties received the affection of thousands of children and handed out 20,000 kilos of gluten-free sweets. The parade included 15 floats as well as the royal guard parade.
The Three Kings arrived in Rincón de la Victoria on a fire engine from the CPB provincial fire brigade. The celebration in the town was described as 'sustainable', with five low-emission floats and 3,000 ecological bags to facilitate the collection of sweets. In addition, there was an 'inclusive section' (parade without lights and sound) for people with autism spectrum disorders.
The visit to Torremolinos was particularly moving, where Melchior, Gaspar and Balthasar made a spectacular landing on La Carihuela beach. There they offered a private reception to children with disabilities and, later, toured the town centre accompanied by ten floats and 25 municipal groups.
In Cártama the procession was a great success and longer than usual. This year, as a novelty, Their Majesties added an additional section to the route along the A-7057 road, allowing more residents to enjoy this tradition close to their homes.
The procession in Estepona consisted of eleven floats and seven parades of film characters, among others. The town's children had a great time at the parade where 16,000 sweets and 4,000 balls were handed out.
The Three Kings were also very generous in Mijas, handing out eight tons of gluten-free sweets, and the 270 children who participated in the three parades threw 5,000 bags of treats, 1,200 candy bars, 2,000 balls, stuffed animals and other toys. Without a doubt, nothing compared to the gifts that Their Majesties will give to all the small children and adults this Three Kings Day who have been well-behaved.
