Eighteen-year-old Lola Martínez Wilson from Torre del Mar has won the Miss RNB Spain 2023. She was crowned at a ceremony held in Motril, Granada province, on Saturday 29 April.
A total of 25 candidates competed at the Playa Granada Golf Hotel to become the new national beauty queen. The first runner-up was Ornella Riva from Toledo and the second runner-up was Sandra Pulido, the representative of Segovia.
The last time the title was won by a local person was when the late Amparo Muñoz from Vélez-Málaga won the same title, before going on to win Miss Universe in 1974.
Wilson, whose father is Spanish and mother is English, will now take part in the Miss Supranational pageant, which will take place in Poland in July.
Lola heard about the RNB Málaga contest through social networks. "I've loved the world of modelling since I was a child, it would be a dream to work as a model. If I can't, I would like to train in aesthetics and make-up,” said Lola after being crowned.
The beauty pageant winner said she was nervous but that she “decided to relax and enjoy it. I had a great time, it was an incredible night", she said, while stressing that she still can't believe it, "I have to let it sink in".
Wilson went on to say, "It was a lot of effort to get there, now I plan to give everything in Poland to leave Spain high in the competition", and added, "if one pursues one's dreams, they come true".
Regarding the coincidence with the 50th anniversary of Amparo Muñoz's win, Wilson said that she knew her story and that it was "quite a coincidence" that her own victory had come half a century later.
Among the members of the jury who chose the winner were Carmen Laura García, Miss World Spain 2009; Faith Torres, Miss Gibraltar 2022; Luis Daniel Gálvez, Mister Supranational 2022; Valentina Espinosa, Miss Colombia 2021, and Prince Julio César, National Director of Venezuela. Other people from Malaga who have won the RNB Spain competition are Elisabeth Reyes, who won Miss Universe in 2006; Remedios Cervantes, who also participated in Miss World 1986 and Miss Universe 1987.
