More than 200 people took part in a sponsored walk and fun day organised by the La Cala Lions Diabetic Support Group to mark World Diabetic Day last weekend. The walkers were given a warm-up Zumba lesson before setting off along the five-kilometre route, which was guarded by medieval knights in amour.

Free glucose testing

Along with a street market and performances by the Costa Soul Singers and the Drang Drummers, medical professionals were on hand to offer free glucose tests, while Specsavers gave advice to those with vision problems.

The event, which raised over 2,000 euros, was attended by Mayor of Mijas Josele González Pérez and the councillor for Foreign Residents, Aranzazu López Lillo.

The group's organiser, Anne Bowles, said, "Many thanks to everyone who helped to make the day such a success, especially the town hall, the stallholders and all the walkers and their sponsors."
