Cudeca Cancer Hospice

Roger's birthday bash

Roger Humpidge celebrated his 70th Birthday in Benahavís and managed to raise money for Cudeca Cancer Hospice at the same time.

Guests attending the party gave a prize for the raffle instead of giving a birthday present to Roger, raising 670 euros in total.

Coffee morning

The first edition of the Coffee Mornings at Mamá Carmen Café in Torremolinos was held recently in aid of Cudeca Cancer Care Hospice. Nearly 85 euros was raised at the event which was organised by John Hennessy with help from numerous volunteers.

Showstoppers

Banana Studios performed a tribute to the West End shows which included Grease, Les Miserables, Copacabana, Mamma Mia and Matilda among others last month and raised 820 euros for Cudeca.

Prostate Cancer Research

Movember

Friends of The Olive Tree Bar in Coín grew their beards and moustaches for 'Movember,' to raise cash for Prostate Cancer Research. Their efforts raised 130 euros.

Mark Wheeler was judged the winner and received a cup and a medal. All participants were then given the choice to have their whiskers publicly removed by razor, enduring a finishing off Sweeney Todd style which earned an extra 215 euros for the charity.

Fundraising fair

The La Cala Lions held their Christmas Fair at Hotel Tamisa Golf recently and raised 3,000 euros for the local community. At the fair, the Lions presented a cheque for 952 euros to the Encina Laura charity which has a day centre for mentally handicapped individuals and another for 500 euros to Ruth Mokler, chair of the Royal British Legion. Their next event is the annual dinner and dance on 9 December at El Olivo restaurant in La Cala. Tickets are 45¤ from The Lions Shop in C/ Torremolinos 12 or tel: 677059061.

Mijas Photography Group

Photo exhibition

The Mijas Photography Group consists of international photography enthusiasts from Denmark, Germany, Ireland, Norway and the UK. Formed in spring 2015, the group meets fortnightly in Mijas Pueblo, and members bring their photographs for discussion. By sharing knowledge and experience in a friendly, encouraging and supportive atmosphere they all contribute so that everybody benefits. Members are also encouraged to interact via the social media forum. Many of the group's images will be on display in their exhibition at the Casa Museo de Mijas from 8pm, 15 December until 7 January.
