Man dies in Torremolinos motorhome fire

Witnesses describe seeing smoke and hearing explosions coming from the vehicle in La Colina on Thursday evening

A 66-year-old man died on Thursday evening in Torremolinos in a fire that broke out in a motorhome parked in Avenida Salvador Dalí in La Colina. The emergency services, called out at 6.22pm, found the body of Cristóbal D. P. in the ... cab of the vehicle.

Police sources said that the victim lived in a nearby block of flats. Witnesses decribe hearing a at least three explosions coming from the vehicle as well as a column of smoke that reached several metres in height.

Firefighters, who took eight minutes to reach on the scene, said that the vehicle looked like a "ball of fire" when they arrived.

The National Police suspect that the blaze was caused accidentally while the man was cleaning the motorhome's gas fittings.

An investigation to confirm the cause of the fire is under way.
